The Transportation and Parking office currently has a limited number of temporary summer permits available for purchase. Permits include all campus locations. Please visit or call the Parking Management (293-5502) for more information. All permits are sold on a first come first serve basis.

WVU Parking Management will begin selling available permits to current students on the Evansdale, Law School, and HSC campuses starting on May 2nd

Permits for the Evansdale campus may be purchased online at click on “Purchase Permits”. Students wishing to purchase a Law School or HSC permit must select “Wait List” and will be notified by email when their request is approved. Those wishing to purchase in person may do so at the Parking Management office – 1112 Van Voorhis Rd – Mountaineer Station beginning May 2nd.

Permits will be issued on a first come first serve basis. Any unpaid citations must be paid before purchase.

Mar 21

Beginning March 21st, the Evansdale gate will be left open from 6.00 pm to 7.00 am during weekdays and all day during weekends. The gate schedule will be programmed to open and close at this set time. This schedule will be followed until further notice. All other settings including access to the gates for service and emergency personnel will remain unchanged.

Feb. 1

Effective February 1, 2016, the Student Rec Center parking lot is now restricted only to people wishing to use the Rec Center facility. The old entrance to the lot on the Health Education Building/CPASS side of the Rec Center will be closed. In order to gain access to the Rec Center parking lot, use Morrill Way in front of Evansdale Crossing. The lot is controlled by a gate requiring validation from the Rec Center in order to exit. An exit fee of $20 will be charged for illegal parking or any other type of parking violation at the Rec Center. Those driving to the Evansdale Campus are instructed to utilize one of the many Short Term lots available nearby.

Winter Break Transportation Announcement

The WVU Personal Rapid Transit system (PRT), campus shuttle, ADA Service, and Sunday Shopping Shuttle will not be in operation beginning on December 17th.

December 17

November 18

The Evansdale Redevelopment project is entering the final construction phase for buildings, roadways and parking lot expansions. The most recent building to open is Evansdale Crossing located on Morrill Way. Additional short term parking has been created in this area with the opening of ST1.

Currently open and ready for use, this lot is situated on the site of the former old Communications Bldg. ST1 will provide 140 additional spaces to the Evansdale campus. With an hourly rate of $1.25, the pay station will accept cash and credit cards.

This is the second short-term lot to open this semester on the Evansdale Campus. In August of this year, ST9 opened behind the Creative Arts Center which created an additional 98 parking spaces.

October 12-13

There will be no PRT service during Fall Break, October 12 & 13, however, WVU’s Transportation Department will be offering bus service both days. The service will run a loop from Towers to B&E Loop (ST-10 gravel lot) every half hour from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mountain Line services will also be available.

September 4th

Parking spaces available at lot 68 (University Park) and Pierpont Apartment lot. Both lots are available to those within and outside of WVU. Lot 68 is a gated lot at a cost of $50/month. Pierpont Apartment lot is $50/month and WVU pre-tax option is available for employees. Permit holders will be required to move during home football games from both lots. August 19th

New Parking Management Hours of Operation

Starting Wednesday, August 19, 2015 the Parking Management Office will have new hours of operation. The new hours will be Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Permit, parking, and citation information is also available online at:


WVU Transportation & Parking has been upgrading software and hardware to all functions of parking management from purchasing permits to mobile apps for pay stations. Beginning Fall 2015, all pay stations will accept credit cards with some offering cash/coin capability. The new pay stations are highly secure and easy to use. Using credit cards will reduce the time per transaction and wait time for the customer. Additionally, the new pay stations will offer the ability to receive real-time expiration reminders and extend parking time via text message. Other planned enhancements include mobile app capability, which will make it convenient to pay for parking remotely. Effective August 1, 2015 the pay stations on campus will no longer give change. The machines will continue to accept coins and bills.


Temporary Entrance change at Mountainlair Garage Starting, Thursday, July 23rd

Please be advised the 2nd floor Mountainlair garage entrance will temporarily change to North High Street to accommodate the garage painting project. The work area will be blocked off with plastic and parking will be available but limited on the 2nd floor. A map is attached showing the temporary entrance to the Mountainlair garage.

Once the 2nd floor is complete, painting will begin on the lower level (Area 9). As with the 2nd floor painting, the work area will be blocked off with plastic and parking will be available but limited.

Short Term Lot 6 Limited Parking Announcement

Please note that Short Term Lot 6 (Evansdale near water tower) will have limited parking on the following dates for scheduled events:

Additional Short Term Parking is available in the following lots: Short Term Lot 8 (Alumni Center) and free parking available at the Coliseum. Transportation Services offers a free shuttle service from the Coliseum to Towers and Mountaineer Station. Visit our website for additional information on the campus shuttle service.

Parking Permit Office closed Thursday, May 28 and Friday, May 29 To better serve the University community, the Parking Management office will be upgrading its parking operations software. In order to make the necessary upgrades, the permit office will be closed starting at 4pm Wednesday, May 28th, through Friday, May 30th and will reopen on Monday, June 1st at 7:30 am.

Please be advised that Short term 2 (second floor Mountainlair Garage) will closed to accommodate special event on Wednesday, May 13th. Alternative parking is available in ST- 10 (B&E loop). We apologize for any inconvenience.

May 11th & 15th

Please be advised that Short term 6 (near Allen Hall) will have limited parking to accommodate special event on Monday, May 11th and Friday, May15th. Alternative parking is available in ST- 8 (Alumni Center) and ST 9 (behind CAC), and free parking at the Coliseum. We apologize for any inconvenience.

April 15-28

Parking permit renewals for current student permit holders at West Virginia University will be available beginning April 15th through April 28th. Any permit not renewed by April 28th will not be guaranteed renewal.

Current student permit holders can renew online at, click on “Need a Permit” button and then select “Wait List”. Permit holders will be notified by e-mail when their renewal request is approved. Those wishing to renew in person may do so by coming to the parking office, located on the first floor of Mountaineer Station starting April 15th. Any unpaid citations must be paid before attempting the renewal process. Permit holders wishing to change their parking area should renew their current permit, and after renewal confirmation is received, call or come to the parking office after April 28th to process the change, pending availability.

The PRT will be closed for maintenance during spring break starting March 21st and will reopen on March 30th. WVU bus service will also be closed down during this time period. Mountain Line city bus service will be in operation over the break. Please refer to for schedule and times.

Short Term Lot 6 Limited Parking Announcement

Please note that Short Term Lot 6 (Evansdale near water tower) will have limited parking on the following dates for scheduled events:

December 18- January 7


The last day of PRT service will be on December 17th, 2014 and the PRT will return to passenger service on January 8th, 2015 to start the Spring Semester. During this period modernization and maintenance efforts will continue with the installation of the Towers Station Uninterruptable Power Supply. This UPS will serve the Towers Station area and allow the PRT to save vehicle data during periods when PRT power service is disrupted.

WVU Bus Service

The last day of Coliseum bus shuttle service will be on December 17th and will resume services on January 12th.

Sunday Shopping Shuttle

December 14th will be the last Sunday for mall shuttle service before the winter break. Service will resume Sunday, January 11th.

Limited parking available in ST6

There will be limited parking available in ST6 on Evansdale campus near the water tower from 9:00 a.m – 10:00 a.m. Alternative short term parking can be located at the Alumni Center (ST8), also ST-9 located on Fine Arts drive adjacent to the backside of the Creative Arts building, and Coliseum parking (free).

December 1

Student Permits Available for Spring Semester

WVU Parking Management has Student permits available in the following locations. Area 45 and 70 (CAC), Area 46 (Greenhouse), 2001 (Student Rec Center) and Area 200 (Law School). Permits will be available in our office and are sold on a first come first serve basis. We are located on Van Voorhis Road inside Mountaineer Station. If you have any questions, please contact the Parking Management Office at 304-293-5502 for assistance.

October 29

The PRT operation schedule has been adjusted to begin service at 8:00a.m. on Saturday, November 1st. This is in an effort to provide transportation to those who wish to attend the ESPN College Gameday event which begins at 9:00 a.m. The PRT will continue to be in operation up until one hour after the game has concluded.

Student parking permits still available.

WVU student parking permits are still available for purchase in the following lots: 200, 201, the law school, 2001, rec center, 45, 70, CAC, 26 on Belmar, and area 77 by CPASS.

September 8

Student parking permit sale September 8th-

WVU Parking Management will begin selling available student permits on the Evansdale, Law School and HSC campuses starting at 8am on September 8th. Permits will be issued on a first come first serve bases and may be purchased online or at our office located on Van Voorhis Road inside Mountaineer Station.

If you currently have a permit and wish to exchange it for another area, you must come to the Parking Office. Unfortunately, exchanges cannot be processed online and we are unable to process permit sales over the phone. The available permit areas will be posted on our website and on the front doors of the Parking Management office by 5pm on Friday September 5th.

August 20

Permit Renewal

Parking Management has completed the 2014-2015 parking permit renewal process for all permit holders who utilize payroll deduction, parking permits were mailed on July 15-18th. If you have not received your permit or if you paid via cash/check/credit card and have not renewed your permit please contact the Parking Management at 304-293-5502 or immediately. As a reminder, permit holders who have outstanding citations on their account did not have their permit renewed and will also need to contact Parking Management.

Permits not paid for and or not picked up by August 22, 2014 may be reissued to those on the waitlist.

August 18

CAC Parking Lot Project for start of Fall Semester

On August 18, the expanded parking area in front of the Creative Arts Center (CAC) will be opened providing 190 spaces. Subsequently, portions of the existing parking lot (Lot 45) will be closed for construction. Overflow for Area 45, if need, should park in Short term 9 or Area 49 (Communication Building). Please observe construction signs, fencing, and temporary detours. The ADA spaces will be temporarily relocated to the drive lane directly in front of the entrance to the CAC. The visitor’s parking spaces will also be temporarily relocated.

Pedestrians walking between the Coliseum, the CAC and the Evansdale campus should observe the construction signs and follow temporary pedestrian routes. Parking Lot 70, which is the lower gravel lot, will remain open to Lot 70 permit holders. The main entrance drive to the parking lot will remain open and the main drive lane closest to the CAC will remain open to buses and emergency vehicles.

August 16-19

Fallfest Parking

Area 9 entrance to the Mountainlair garage will be closed due to preparations for FallFest from Saturday (August 16th) at 8:00 am until Tuesday morning (August 19th). The exit driveway will be used as the entrance and exit for Area 9.

The annual FallFest event will be held on Monday, August 18th which will result in Maiden Lane being closed after 5:00 p.m. and congestion in Areas 6, 9 and 25 parking lots behind the Mountainlair. The Mountainlair garage will be closed on Monday to all general parking from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00p.m. All cars parked on Maiden Lane after 5:00 p.m. on Monday will be relocated. In addition, we request that all Area 25 (Mountainlair loading dock) permit holders use Area 9 for parking on Monday so that equipment and busses for FallFest can utilize this area.

The Personal Rapid Transit System (PRT) will be operating until 1:00 a.m. Monday night due to the FallFest event. In addition, a shuttle bus will run from Towers residence halls to the Mountainlair downtown and back until 1:00 a.m.

August 14-15

Move-in day to affect permit parking

Student move-in causes an increase in congestion in and around the University Housing areas. In an effort to shorten the distance for students and their families to carry their personal belongings to residence halls, those with valid parking permits for the lots around residence halls (Summit, Boreman, Dadisman/Stalnaker and Arnold) and Area 6 on Maiden Lane are requested to not park in the designated area during move-in days: Thursday (Aug. 14) and Friday (Aug. 15). Employees are encouraged to carpool or ride the bus and PRT. Parking permits for the residence hall and above-mentioned parking areas can be used in short-term parking areas on the top level of the Mountainlair Garage, Areas 7 and 11 on Beechurst Avenue on either side of Stansbury Hall, or Short-Term 5 on Grant Avenue across from Honors Hall. These alternatives are only for the two move-in days listed. Please contact the Parking Management at 293-5502 or Residential Education at 293-4686 for questions.

August 1, 2014

As of August 1, 2014, Lot 46 will be moved to ST-1 (new Lot 46) located near the Evansdale Greenhouse and used for permit parking only. Similarly, on August 1, 2014, the Water Tower Lot (ST-6) will be used for short-term parking and special events only. There will be no permit parking at the Water Tower lot.
