PARKING RULES AND REGULATIONS:

Parking Rules and Regulations
- Numbered parking areas throughout WVU require valid parking permits for University affiliated persons and visitors
- Faculty, staff, and students are not considered visitors and are in violation when parking in visitor spaces
- Temporary permits for a paid parking area may be requested for special purpose by contacting the Parking Management Office at (304)293-5502
- Any faculty or staff permit for the Downtown or Health Sciences Area 80 will be honored while on temporary business in Areas 42, 45, 46, 50, 52, and 54 on the Evansdale Campus.
- Faculty and staff permits from the Evansdale and Health Sciences Area 80 will be honored while on temporary business in Areas 5 and 7 on the Downtown Campus.
- Evansdale permits are allowed to relocate to Evansdale Areas 42, 45, 46, 50, 52, and 54 while on temporary business on that campus
- If the parking area to which one is assigned is full upon arrival, proceed to the nearest paid lot. Notify the Parking Management Office immediately by calling 293-5502, proper instructions will be provided. Failure to follow this procedure may result in the issuance of a citation.
- With the exception of parking lots that are marked as 24-hour enforcement, all other permit parking lots are enforced from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Short-term lots are enforced from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Parking is enforced 24-hours in Area 5, Area 9 (Mountainlair Parking Garage), Area 10 (Brooks Hall), Area 13 (Prospect Street), Area 14 (617 Spruce Street), Area 25 (Mountainlair), Area 29 (Knapp Hall), and Area 48 (Towers). Areas 10, 23, and 25 can be used from 5:00 p.m to 7:00 a.m. by faculty and staff with valid parking permits for any paid area.
- Persons should respond within ten days from receipt of the citation to resolve the matter. Faculty and staff members who disregard their citation may be referred to a magistrate court. Students who fail to respond may be placed on academic restriction.
- Persons that have five unpaid parking citations issued from permitted parking lot will be towed at the owners expense.
- Some parking areas for special performance and athletic events my be reserved. Persons that have permits for these areas must relocate their cars to unrestricted areas by the times noted on parking area signs.
- All legal parking areas are designated by signs, painted stripes, or other markings. If it isn’t marked – don’t park!
- The absence of a sign at the entrance of a parking area does not denote that those without proper permits can use that area.
- Parking restrictions are in effect at all times including semester and holiday breaks.
- Permits purchased by individuals departing WVU may not be given or sold to persons remaining at the institution. Permits are not transferable.
- Permits may only be used by the permit holder registered with Parking Management. Dependents, friends, and/or associates of any authorized permit holder are not authorized to use that persons permit while parking for their personal convenience.
- Bicycles, motorcycles, etc., must park in areas provided. They must not park in paid areas assigned to automobiles. They also must not be secured to railings, fences or other stationary devices.
- Citations will be issued to vehicles parking on sidewalks, grass, yellow lines, at yellow curbs/bumper blocks, fire zones, in no-parking or non-designated parking areas, loading and unloading zones, those blocking entrances to or exits from buildings, and students or employees parking in visitor areas. Please do not parking in a disability parking space without the proper State or University permit.
- Lack of convenient space is not considered a valid excuse for violation of a regulation.
- Parking and going into buildings for a few minutes to drop off an item or to pick up an item is not a valid excuse to park in any lot requiring a permit.
- Handicapped areas are restricted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Violations will result in fines ranging from $200 to $500 and towing.
