Students, faculty, staff and the general public can get a WVU parking citation excused by donating to WVU Parking Management’s “Food for Fines” food drive, benefiting The Rack – our student food pantry.
In exchange for a donation of ten non-perishable food items (12 ounces or more recommended), participants can get a maximum of one unpaid parking citation removed from their account, up to a $20 value
Participants should donate their items to the first floor of Mountaineer Station from Wednesday, Nov. 1, through Friday, Nov. 10. The collection site will be open from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on weekdays.
Parking citations that already have been paid cannot be refunded; however, donations are welcome from those who do not currently have any unpaid parking citations.
Suggested donations include:
- all types of rice and pasta
- pasta sauce
- varieties of soups
- microwavable meals
- canned vegetables (corn, carrots, mixed vegetables, tomatoes, peas)
- canned fruits (pears, peaches, mixed fruit, mandarin oranges)
- canned meats (turkey, ham, spam, chicken, tuna)
- beans (black beans, great northern beans, cannellini beans, kidney beans)
- condiments and spices (ketchup, mustard, salad dressings)
- other baking and cooking staples
- bottled water
The Rack is also in need of food items for individuals with dietary restrictions, such as those who follow vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free or gluten-free diets. To view specific donation needs, visit The Rack’s Amazon wishlist.
Food items should not be expired.
