Updates to select WVU parking costs

Effective July 1, 2026, the WVU Parking Management team will make adjustments to some campus parking costs.

The following changes to the Parking Management program are in line with regional parking standards, including those at peer institutions and in the local municipality.

New late payment fee:

The University will implement a new late payment fee of $15 when citations are past due (30 days after the citation is written).

Parking permit cost changes:

The cost of all parking permits will increase by 5% to help offset operational and maintenance costs while keeping permit rates competitive within the regional market.

Changes to the prices of student parking permits were implemented this spring during student permit sales. Changes to the prices of employee parking permits will go into effect at the start of the next permit cycle (Aug. 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027). Employees who pay for parking permits through payroll deduction will begin to see the change reflected in their Aug. 21 paycheck.

Updated permit costs can be viewed online.

Subsidized parking for a focused group of employees:

To assist employees making $40,000 per year or less with parking accessibility, the University will provide a $20 per month subsidy to this group of parking permit-holding employees. With the subsidy, about 80% of these eligible employees will pay around $10 per month or less for parking.

This subsidy will be automatically distributed via payroll during the employee’s active work months (12 months for 12-month employees or 9 months for 9-month employees). This change will go into effect at the start of the next permit cycle (Aug. 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027), and the subsidy will begin to be reflected in the Aug. 21 paycheck.

Permits will continue to be available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis, and the subsidy will be automatically provided to eligible employees.

Short-term parking rate adjustments:

Parking rates in three short-term parking lots will be adjusted to bring these lots in line with other short-term parking lots on campus and comparable campus facilities.

Hourly rates at lot ST-1 at the Art Museum and ST-8 at Erickson Alumni Center will be changed from $0.50 to $1.25 per hour, and the daily rate at the Coliseum parking lot will be changed from $1 to $2 per day.

Towing fees:

To align with local rates and bring fees in line with industry standards, the University will implement a $45 administrative towing fee and will update tow storage fees from $2 per day to $25 per day.

Sales tax:

Sales tax will now be implemented on parking purchases, including short-term parking payments. The University previously covered this tax but is now transferring this cost to the customer, in alignment with best practices. Sales tax is already applied to payments for citations.

These changes will go into effect on July 1, 2026. For questions, please contact the WVU Parking Management team at transportation@mail.wvu.edu or by calling the office at 304-293-5502 (Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.).
